Ron does the Irish Jig to Scythian

It was a chilly November 26th night when the gang decided to go with me to Kildare's Media to see CON. Well we got out there @ 10:30pm expecting to see Frank, Wes, James, & Sean whaling away on Guitars & Drums, Instead there was an eeirly familiar sound coming from the Pub. As we entered I realized the sound I was hearing was that of a couple of Fiddle's. Now I was shocked, to say the least... I figured CON Added a Fiddler, I mean Alabama said it best, "If you're gonna play in texas, you gotta have a fiddle in the band.". I then realized real quick, this wasn't CON, it wasn't rock music, or Irish Rock, or anything close. It was a traditional Irish Reel, with a southern twist. I was shocked and had to explain to my group why CON wasn't playing. I figured these guys were just finishing up and CON would be on next. I quickly realized this wasn't the case...

I scoured the bar looking for any signs of the regular CON Crowd, or the band & found nothing. As time went on everyone with me were kinda getting pissy cause most of them do not like traditional Irish Music. Or so they thought...

We got a spot in the back of bar and began watering the brain. I then got a table for a few in our crew to eat. While they ate I wandered up to see this band I had heard a lot about. I watched the end of the first set and enjoyed them. I then watched their 2nd set with Dan & I really enjoyed it. When I rturned to the back of bar Ron had opened a tab and was already 6-8 shots deep with Dan's girlfriend Lorelei.

Dan & I followed up a couple of shots of Tullamore Dew. (Refer back to my blog on whiskey tango to see Dan's after shot reaction) a few more beers then off to the front for more Scythian.

One of the highlights of there third set was a stirring rendition of Flogging Molly's, What's left of the Flag. In which Dan, Ron & I scarred most of their mid 40's - 60's crowd by knowing the lyrics and singing it along with the band. I think they enjoyed it. :-) ...

It was around this time that the fun really started, I don’t remember how it really started but I would up with Dan & Ron attempting to dance the Irish Jig along to the Music. They were really doing a wicked bad job of it, so I had to take my Jiggin' shoes out of retirement and show'em how it was done. Once they saw it for real they learned quick and were actually pretty good at it. The most amazing part of this story is just that "Ron Was Dancing the Irish Jig." For those of you who don’t know Ron, He is a very Proud Italian American who pretty much just Tolerates Irish Music. I mean he likes CON, but pretty much that’s about as far as he goes. When we travel around in the truck he hates its when I play the Pogues, Skels, or Most other Irish Bands. I think in the end the Irish Music Scene is finally rubbing off on him.

Heres the Proof...
